The best options for Nigerian remote workers
1. Mauritius Premium Visa
Mauritius is the most accessible option for most Nigerians. The Premium Visa needs about $1,500 a month in income earned outside Mauritius, and it’s free to apply online. Approval often comes within days. It lasts a year and can be renewed. You’ll need three months of bank statements, health and travel insurance, and proof of accommodation. Carry your physical yellow fever card, because digital copies have been refused at some ports.
2. Namibia Digital Nomad Visa
Namibia asks for $2,000 a month (plus $1,000 for a spouse and $500 per child), costs about NAD 3,300 (~$180), and is applied for online. The stay is six months, and sources disagree on whether it can be extended, so check before you go. Foreign income isn’t taxed under Namibia’s territorial system. You’ll need a Nigerian police clearance, six months of bank statements and a yellow fever certificate.
3. Cape Verde Remote Working Program
Cape Verde is an ECOWAS member, so Nigerians can already visit visa-free for short stays. Its Remote Working Program allows a six-month stay, renewable for another six. It asks for about $1,600 a month in income (or equivalent savings) and charges a small fee, and remote workers are exempt from Cape Verdean income tax. Eligibility is limited to certain nationalities, so confirm on the official Cabo Verde remote-working page that Nigerian passports qualify before you apply.
4. Brazil Digital Nomad Visa
Brazil asks for $1,500 a month or $18,000 in savings, and the visa lasts a year, renewable once. Apply through the Brazilian embassy or consulate in Nigeria. Brazil suits Nigerians who want a large, affordable country with an active creative and tech scene.
5. UAE remote work visa
Dubai’s one-year remote work visa needs $3,500 a month and no local sponsor, and you apply online. Show a clear income trail: contracts, invoices, platform payouts, and statements from Payoneer, Grey or your domiciliary account. If you plan to serve UAE-based clients, you need a freelance permit or business licence instead.
6. Thailand DTV
The DTV has no monthly income test. It needs 500,000 THB in savings shown as a steady balance, not a recent lump sum, plus proof of remote work and a 10,000 THB fee. Apply online or through the Thai embassy in Nigeria. It’s valid for five years, with stays of up to 180 days per entry.
7. Spain Digital Nomad Visa
Spain is the most affordable major EU option at €2,849 a month in 2026. You’ll need a degree or about three years of professional experience, at least three months with your current employer or clients, Spanish private health insurance, and criminal records from every country you’ve lived in for the past five years. Book appointments at the Spanish consulate in Lagos early, because slots fill quickly and processing can take months.
Also worth considering: Greece (€3,500 a month after tax, applied for at the Greek embassy in Nigeria before you travel), Portugal’s D8 (€3,680 a month) and Malaysia’s DE Rantau (about $24,000 a year for digital roles).
Documents Nigerians usually need
- International passport valid well beyond your stay.
- Police character certificate: apply on the Nigeria Police Force’s POSSAP portal, then do biometrics at a Police Criminal Registry. The fee for immigration purposes has risen in recent years, so check the current amount on POSSAP. Order it first, because the later steps take time.
- Document legalisation: Nigerian documents are legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then, if required, by the destination country’s embassy. Allow two to six weeks.
- Yellow fever vaccination card (the physical card), required by Mauritius, Namibia and several other countries for travellers from Nigeria.
- Income proof: contracts, invoices, platform reports and 3–6 months of bank statements.
- Health insurance valid in the destination. Compare SafetyWing vs Genki.
How to prove foreign income from Nigeria
Consulates want stable, traceable income at or above the threshold. Keep one dedicated account for client payments, and show the full trail: client invoice, then the payment into Payoneer, Grey or another receiving account, then the transfer into your Nigerian domiciliary (USD) or naira account. Large, unexplained cash deposits often lead to refusals. For receiving tools, see our guide to accounts for getting paid by foreign clients, and check what similar jobs pay in our digital nomad income guide.

Not legal advice. Visa rules, income thresholds and fees change, and some programmes limit which nationalities can apply. Confirm everything with the official embassy or portal before you pay any fees.
